Story

The story starts off with Eragon hunting in the Spine. Their family doesn't have that much money so Eragon has to hunt for food. He comes to a clearing and discovers this big blue stone. He secretly brings it home without his uncle knowing and hides it in his room. That night it hatches and it turns out to be a baby dragon. He touches the dragon and a strange thing happens, a symbol appears on his palm in the form of a scar. He feeds the dragon leftovers from meals and takes the dragon to the woods where he builds it a home up in the trees to protect it from wild animals. He goes to Brom's and starts to ask him many things about dragons and the history of the Dragon Riders. After this talk he names the dragon Saphira after hearing Brom mention the name. He secretly raises the dragon until the Ra'zac, Galbatorix's servants, come looking for the egg. Eragon and Saphira escape by hiding in the forest, while the Ra'zac destroy Eragon's home including his uncle Garrow. Brom discovers that Eragon is a rider and together the three of them hunt down the Ra'zac.

On his adventure Brom teaches Eragon many things such as sword fighting, magic, the ways of the Dragon Rider, and the Ancient Language. They travel to many cities where Eragon is surprised to see how the Empire is harming Alagaesia and its people. They travel to many places such as Dras Leona, Helgrind, and Tierm where they meet Solembum and Angela, residents of Tierm. In Dras Leona, Eragon discovers the Ra'zac in a Cathedral . They escape from the city and camp on the outskirts of town. But don't think they are safe yet! The Ra'zac ambush them but Murtagh, a mysterious stranger, rescues them. Brom is badly wounded and he dies shortly after he reveals to Eragon and Saphira that he too is a Dragon Rider. Eragon buries Brom and Saphira turns Brom's tomb into a casing of diamond so as he will never be forgotten. Eragon, Saphira, and Murtagh travel to the Beor Mountains in search of the Varden, a rebel base that plans to destroy the Empire and Galbatorix. Along the way, Eragon has a dream about a woman who is being held prisoner by a Shade named Durza. They stop in Uru-Baen where Eragon rescues the woman who is actually an elf. Eragon faces of against Durza who is very powerful and barely manages to escape.

After their close escape, the arrive even closer to the Beor Mountains. They are pusued by an elite army of Kull who drive them deeper into the Beors. Eragon soon discovers that Murtagh is the Son of Morzan, the first and last of the Forsworn. They defaet the Kull with help from the Varden and Eragon goes to meet the Varden's leader Ajihad. He reveals many things to them about the past and what is going on now with the situation. Eragon is finally able to rest, although an invasion soon approaches. They are attacked by the Empire and the Urgals. Durza is there to command the men but soon faces off against Eragon and Saphira who can now breathe fire. Ragon recieves a terrible wound on his back but just as Durza is about to capture him Arya creates a diversion and Eragon stabs the shade directly through the heart just before he blacks out. While he's unconscious a stranger contacts him through his mind and tells Eragon he is wanted for training in the land of elves. He wakes up and finds Angela tending to his wounds. He soon takes notice of the long wound on his back. The story ends as he reunites with Saphire, Arya, and Murtagh and promises the presence in his mind he will find him to continue the training.
